Capture AC-3 through TOSLink?

Description

Hello,

I was looking at A52Codec, and I am in love.

One question I would like to verify though...

It looks like using AC-3 passthrough, I could **capture** Live AC-3 streams coming from a source such as properly handled LaserDisc?, or DVD through the optical input of my Quad G5, and have it decoded into 6 channels in an app like Quicktime, or iMovie?

Am I off base here? If so, is there a way to simply capture this input and have it spit out to an AC-3 file that then could be used to break into the 6 descrete pcm tracks?

Did I miss something here?

Thank you, and keep up the great work!!!!!!

Sorry, this component is really for playback only. The passthrough is actually limited to passing already captured AC3 audio from a media file to the TOSlink.

I almost wonder if it is possible to record the AC3 audio using an audio program or something. There is change in the data through this process. The only question is whether the OS will rejected digital audio encoded packets, or treat them like PCM packets. From that point, it is possible to modify the resulting recording into a .ac3 file (not sure if a tool exists to do this, but there may be one). If you had a .ac3 file, this component can give you 6 discrete PCM tracks.

Closing since this isn't really a defect, but don't feel like that means you can no longer comment on it.
